Kayaking Organizations & Links

Bay Area Sea Kayakers (BASK)
Sea Kayaking Club
San Francisco Bay Area

A group of over 500 kayakers in the San Francisco Bay area. Many fantastic paddlers. I was a member during most of my California stay. Most useful is probably their online Trip Planner, which is available to the public and provides info about parking, tides, currents, and facilities at put-ins all around the Bay Area.

Environmental Traveling Companions (ETC)
Trips for disadvantaged youth and people with disabilities
San Francisco Bay Area

A primarily volunteer-driven organization that gives disadvantaged youth and people with disabilities the opportunity to go on outdoor adventures, including sea kayaking. I went through the training in Spring 2013, and volunteered a few times before I had to leave California.

Bay Area Kayak Polo
Kayak Polo Club
San Francisco Bay Area

A young group of playful kayakers who practice kayak polo regularly in the South Bay and Berkeley. They organize a bi-monthly beginner training session that I try to attend whenever I'm in town. If you've never played polo before, then this is the group for you!

The best way to get started is to sign up for a Meetup. The practices are super affordable ($8) for what you're getting (boat/gear rental + instruction). Peter (organizer) is awesome and you'll love kayak polo immediately.

Sea Kayaking Rentals & Sales
California Canoe & Kayak
Expert sea kayak shop located in Oakland, CA. Conveniently, only 10 mins from my apartment! I've taken a couple surf zone/sea kayaking courses with them, and I learn so much every time. They carry a wide range of boats and gear, and you can test paddle the boats on site.

Sea Trek Kayak & SUP
Kayak and SUP rentals in Sausalito. This is where most of the ETC (see above) trips start. The shop recently moved to a new location (as of Nov 1, 2014), so I'm looking forward to visiting when back in CA.
